How to Submit Your Website’s Sitemap to Google Webmaster Tool

Google Webmaster tool is a free tool that lets you control your website and blog from the perspective of search engine like google, bing. First of all, we need to understand what is a site map, and why it is important to submit your sitemap to the search engine.

What is a sitemap?

Sitemap is an XML file that contains URLs inside your Website. This file crawler helps you find all the URLs of your website, blog.

A sitemap is a file where you provide information about the Website pages, video and other files on your webstie. Search engines like Google, bing, Yahoo read this file to more intelligently crawl your site.

If your website’s pages are properly linked, Google, bing, Yahoo web crawlers can usually discover most of your website. Even so, a xml sitemap can improve the crawling of your website, particularly if your site meets one of the following criteria

General Website Sitemap Guidelines
1) Use consistent, Fully Qualified URL’s. Bing, Yahoo, Google will Crawl your URL’s exactly as listed. For instance, if your site is at https://www.domain-name.com/, don’t specify a URL as https://domain-name.com/ (missing www) or ./my-page.html, ./my-page.php (a Relative URL’s).
2) Don’t Include Web Session IDs From URL’s in Your Blog, Website sitemap to Reduce Duplicate Crawling of Those URL’s.
3) Website Sitemap files must be UTF-8 encoded, and URL’s escaped appropriately.
4) Break Up large Website Sitemaps into smaller sitemaps to prevent your server from being overloaded if Bing, Yahoo, Google requests your sitemap frequently. A Website sitemap file can’t contain more than 50,000 URL’s and must be no larger than 50 MB uncompressed. Use a Website sitemap Index file to list all the individual Website sitemaps and submit this single file to Bing, Yahoo, Google rather than submitting individual Website sitemaps.
5) if you have alternate pages for different languages or regions, you can use hreflang in either a Website sitemap or html tags to indicate the alternate URLs.
